Around 500 seasonal workers are employed each year between April and November for various jobs including poly tunnel construction, irrigation work, planting, trimming, picking and packing.
Seasonal workers must be at least 18 years old and full training is provided. The work is physically demanding, so workers need to be fit and healthy. English is useful but not essential as there are several translators of various languages living on the farm.
Since the UK’s exit from the European Union in 2020, anyone wanting to work at Barnsmuir will need to be a UK National, have EU Settled Status or a relevant visa or work permit. Many overseas seasonal workers are now recruited through the Seasonal Worker Scheme, which allows workers to spend six months in the UK.
